Digital Fueling – How the Refueling Process Works

Instead of a fuel card and fuel PIN, fueling now runs directly through the app. You start the refueling process from your booking, select a gas station and pump, fuel as usual – payment is triggered automatically in the background.

Summary

Instead of a fuel card and fuel PIN, fueling runs directly through the app with participating providers. You start the refueling process from your booking, select a gas station and pump, fuel as usual – payment is triggered automatically in the background. You don't need a receipt from the till.

Important: Not every sharing provider offers Digital Fueling. You can check directly in the app whether this feature is active for your vehicle. If supported, the refueling process must always be started via the app before you fuel. If you simply drive to a gas station and fuel without starting this flow, you'll have to pay at the till yourself and submit the receipt afterwards for reimbursement. If this happens, please contact our Helpcenter to find out the exact procedure for your sharing provider.

Step by Step

1. Before booking

When selecting a vehicle, you'll see the note "Pay at the pump via app" if your provider supports Digital Fueling for this vehicle. Tap the info button to see in advance how the process works (unlock pump → fuel up → done, no till needed).

2. Starting the booking

After unlocking the vehicle, the app briefly shows you again how the refueling process works. Confirm this with "Understood".

3. Starting the refueling process

During your active booking, you'll find the "Refuel" button in the booking overview (previously labeled "Info"). Tap it to start the refueling process.

4. Finding a gas station

A web view with a map opens. You'll see your current location and may need to zoom in to find a partner gas station nearby. Partner gas stations are not marked with a sign or sticker on the pump the way classic fuel cards (DKV, UTA) are – you have to find them via the map in the app. The network generally includes Aral, Esso, Ran, and HEM.

5. Selecting a pump

At the gas station, select your pump number and confirm with "Confirm pump selection". The pump is briefly prepared – don't pick up the nozzle yet until preparation is complete.

6. Fueling

Once the pump is ready, you can pick up the nozzle and fuel as much as you like, as usual.

7. Finishing up

After putting the nozzle back, payment is triggered automatically in the background. This can take a moment. If the screen doesn't update automatically, a link will appear after a short while: "I have refuelled and returned the nozzle" – tap it to confirm completion manually.

8. Done

You'll see a success message and can close the browser window. You'll automatically return to the app and can continue your trip.

FAQ

Does every sharing provider offer Digital Fueling?

No, not every sharing provider offers Digital Fueling. You can see directly in the app whether the feature is available for your booked vehicle (look for the "Pay at the pump via app" notice). If your provider does not support it, refueling is done using the physical fuel card in the vehicle.

Do I still need to carry or use a fuel card?

If digital fueling is activated for your vehicle, the process runs directly via the app – no physical fuel card is needed at partner stations.

  • Vehicles / providers without digital fueling: If your provider does not offer digital fueling or the app shows a fuel card icon, the physical fuel card is located in the glove compartment. The PIN is displayed in the active booking screen.

  • Unsupported station or card issue: If you have to pay out of pocket, submit your receipt via the app/helpcenter for reimbursement.

Who will pay the fuel costs?

Fuel costs are covered by the sharing provider, whether settled digitally via the app or using the physical fuel card at partner stations.

How do I know if a gas station is supported? Only via the map view within the refueling flow in the app – there's no external marking at the station itself.

I already fueled before starting the process – what now? You'll need to pay at the till yourself and submit the receipt for reimbursement. The digital flow only works if it's started before fueling. Please contact our Helpcenter in this case.
